Ivan, auch Ivo, Sedliský, wurde 1926 als «Ivan Kopriva» in Ostrava, Tschechien, geboren. Von 1946 bis 1952 studierte er an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Prag bei Vratislav Nechleba und Breslau. Beim ersteren war der Künstler in den Jahren von 1952 bis 1960 zudem als Assistent tätig. Seine Kunst stellte er in den 1960er sowie 1970er Jahren in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern, darunter in Holland, Deutschland, Frankreich und Dänemark aus, aber auch in Kanada und Algerien nahm er an Ausstellungen teil. Die Kunst des tschechischen Malers ist heute in europäischen sowie nordamerikanischen Galerien und Sammlungen vertreten. Neben der Malerei und Grafik übte sich Sedliský auch in der Keramik- und Metallkunst. Er und seine erste Ehefrau, Božena Sedliská, verfolgten einen gleichen Malstil. Beide wandten die gleiche Öltechnik an und rahmten die Bilder in dieselben Rahmen ein. Mehrheitlich wird 1999 als sein Sterbejahr notiert, aber auch 1996 ist vorzufinden.

He and his first wife, Božena Sedliská, followed the same style of painting. Both used the same oil technique and framed the pictures in the same frames. Mostly 1999 is noted as the year of his death, but 1996 is also found.
