Ivan, auch Ivo, Sedliský, wurde 1926 als «Ivan Kopriva» in Ostrava, Tschechien, geboren. Von 1945 bis 1950 studierte er an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Prag bei Vratislav Nechleba und Breslau. Beim ersteren war der Künstler in den Jahren von 1952 bis 1960 zudem als Assistent tätig. Seine Kunst stellte er in den 1960er sowie 1970er Jahren in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern aus. Sie ist heute in europäischen sowie nordamerikanischen Galerien und Sammlungen vertreten. Neben der Malerei und Grafik übte sich Sedliský auch in der Keramikkunst. Er und seine erste Ehefrau, Božena Sedliská, verfolgten einen gleichen Malstil. Beide wandten die gleiche Öltechnik an und rahmten die Bilder in dieselben Rahmen ein. Mehrheitlich wird 1999 als sein Sterbejahr notiert, aber auch 1996 ist vorzufinden.
